The reversing camera (optional), featuring an improved, more precise visual quality, enhances both driving comfort and safety. The camera integrated in the boot lid transmits an image of the area behind the vehicle to the central display. The camera image not only makes parking easier, but also aids manoeuvring on unclear terrain.
The electronic parking aid PARKTRONIC (optional) employs sensors to monitor the front and rear of the vehicle when manoeuvring and warns the driver if a potential collision is detected. If the optional system identifies an obstruction, it emits a visual signal. As soon as the distance is less than approx. 35 cm, a short warning sound is emitted. If the vehicle gets even closer (less than approx. 25 cm) a continuous signal is sounded. PARKTRONIC uses this procedure to make parking safe, even when limited space is available.
The new optional Blind Spot Assist uses a red warning triangle symbol in the relevant side mirror should it detect that another driver has changed lanes and entered the danger zone to the left or right of the vehicle. Should the driver fail to notice the warning and indicate to change lane, the visual warning is supplemented by an audible alarm issued from the instrument cluster. The system can be activated via the instrument cluster and operates at speeds between 30 and 250 km/h.
The optional DISTRONIC proximity control system helps the driver to keep the vehicle at the desired distance from a vehicle ahead. Radar sensors permanently measure the distance from the preceding vehicle and regulate the speed. If there is no vehicle in front, DISTRONIC functions like cruise control and maintains the desired driving speed.
