Environmentally compatible concepts

BlueEFFICIENCY from Mercedes-Benz stands for pioneering efficiency technology as well as innovative packages of measures based on optimising fuel consumption and emission levels.

BlueEFFICIENCY measures

The new SLK is equipped with a wealth of diverse BlueEFFICIENCY features and environment-friendly technologies, depending on the engine.

These are, for instance:

  • Aerodynamically shaped exterior mirror housings
  • Tyres with optimised rolling resistance
  • ECO start/stop function
  • Energy-saving control of auxiliary units with requirement-dependent action (power steering pump as well as fuel and oil pumps)
  • Alternator management (alternator switched off in traction mode)
  • Entire engine range certified as compliant with Euro 5 emissions class
  • Air conditioning compressor with on-demand control
  • Current fuel consumption indicator
  • Engine technologies such as direct injection and turbocharging
  • Optimised aerodynamics through the adjustable radiator shutters on the SLK 200 BlueEFFICIENCY
  • Shift point indicator for models with manual transmission

Efficiency technologies in the SLK Roadster

Direct injection, downsizing, increased compression and turbocharging in the new engine generation enable top torque, output and noise reduction figures. Innovative engine technology makes it possible to significantly reduce emissions and fuel consumption compared with previous models.

Environmental certificate

Mercedes-Benz is the only automotive brand in the world to have received an ISO-standard Environmental Certificate. For this certification, the vehicle models have to meet strict requirements and undergo stringent controls in their development, production and recycling. Our goal is to make environmental protection objectively measurable and to make it possible for you as the driver to experience it concretely.
