The outstanding comfort of the E-Class Estate extends to its luggage compartment – something you notice as soon as you open the tailgate. Thanks to a full range of standard and optional equipment, even the bulkiest objects can be transported easily and practically.
The optional automatic EASY-PACK tailgate operates electrohydraulically. It can be opened at the touch of a button from the driver’s door, using the button on the tailgate or the ignition key. The tailgate is closed using a switch on the tailgate. It can be halted in a position lower than its maximum opening, for instance, to prevent it making contact with low garage roofs. If an object causes an obstruction when the tailgate is closing, the process is automatically halted.
The EASY-PACK load compartment cover is part of the E-Class Estate standard equipment, protecting luggage from the sun and from prying eyes.
If necessary, the safety net and the load compartment cover (which is in a colour harmonising with the interior appointments) can be removed from one of the double roller blind rails and secured.
To make loading easier, the load compartment cover moves upwards when the tailgate is opened, and automatically returns to its original position when the tailgate is closed. The safety net that acts as a luggage compartment partition can be placed either between the B-pillars or C-pillars, depending on the luggage compartment size required. It provides effective protection to vehicle occupants from objects in the luggage compartment.
On closer inspection, the level luggage compartment floor reveals itself to be the EASY-PACK folding load compartment floor, which offers 132 litres of additional stowage space. Its folding principle makes it possible to open it in stages, which aids loading. In the ELEGANCE and AVANTGARDE design und equipment lines there is a compartment case on the second load level beneath the folding load compartment floor.
The EASY-PACK Quickfold convenience function makes it possible to fold down the rear seat backrests of the E-Class Estate from the load compartment quickly and easily, and without having to fold the seat cushions away. This creates a level load area with a volume of 1950 litres.
