At the push of a button the DISTRONIC proximity-controlled cruise control keeps the vehicle at the desired distance from the vehicle in front. Radar sensors permanently measure the distance and regulate the speed. The cruise control function also allows the driver to set a desired speed which is automatically maintained.
Anti-theft alarm system (ATA) with tow-away protection and interior monitoring
The anti-theft alarm system (ATA) protects the vehicle from theft and break-ins as soon as the vehicle is locked via the remote. The system triggers an alarm when an unauthorised person opens the vehicle doors, the boot lid or the bonnet. The alarm also sounds if the ignition lock is shorted or removed or the foot brake is applied. The tow-away protection function responds to a change in the position of the vehicle and can be deactivated – for example, if the car must be loaded onto another vehicle or towed.
PARKTRONIC parking aid
The electronic parking aid PARKTRONIC monitors the front and rear of the vehicle during manoeuvring and warns the driver if there is a risk of collision. If the system identifies an obstruction, it provides a visual signal. As soon as the distance is less than approx. 35 cm, a short warning sound is emitted. When the vehicle gets even closer (less than approx. 25 cm away) a continuous signal is heard. PARKTRONIC uses this procedure to make parking safe, even with limited space available.
Tyre pressure monitoring system
The tyre pressure monitoring system provides a warning if the tyres have lost a dangerous amount of air. The wheel electronics of the four wheels continually transmit the tyre pressure and temperature data to the vehicle’s control unit. If the system identifies a variance then it warns the driver via a yellow or red signal in the instrument cluster.
Reversing camera
The reversing camera adds a convenient feature and also tangibly improves safety. The camera integrated in the tailgate transmits an image of the area behind the vehicle to the COMAND screen. The camera image not only makes parking easier but also aids in manoeuvring through hard-to-see terrain.
Headlamps in bi-xenon version with active light function, incl. LED tail light
The bi-xenon headlamps provide higher brightness values, a larger range of light and wider illumination of the road surface than conventional headlamps. With the active light function the headlamps follow the steering movements and tilt to adjust to curves.
In turn the automatic speed adjustment allows for fast actuation at higher speeds or a correspondingly slower adjustment for lower speeds. This prevents the headlamps from frantically flipping back and forth, such as when driving on winding roads.

Audio 50 APS
The Audio 50 APS radio navigation system is equipped with a CD/DVD drive and telephone keypad and can be operated using the multifunction steering wheel. The navigation provides arrow-based directions in an easy-to-read colour display. The microphone for the mobile telephone pre-installation allows for hands-free talking: the system also accepts voice commands through LINGUATRONIC (available as an option).

COMAND APS multimedia system with DVD navigation module
COMAND APS is equipped with a hard-disk-based navigation system with map display and a 6.5-inch colour display and serves as the central control unit for all telematics components.
The system's entertainment functions include a radio, a CD/DVD drive which is MP3-compatible, an equalizer with speed-sensitive volume control and MUSIC REGISTER with a 4 GB hard disk for storing digital music files. An Aux-in connection in the glove compartment, a slot for SD memory cards and a Bluetooth interface provide connections to external data devices and a mobile telephone. In addition the Gracenote® database supplies information on the album and artist for CDs and DVDs. LINGUATRONIC allows you to operate COMAND APS using voice entry.

TV tuner (for analogue and digital reception)
Television viewing during driving breaks is made possible by the TV tuner: the receiver unit processes both analogue and digital signals and is controlled via the COMAND multimedia system whose 6.5-inch screen displays the image. The audio is played through the vehicle’s loudspeaker system. The receiver aerial is integrated in the rear window. From a speed of approx. 6 km/h the image is switched off due to safety reasons and reappears only when the speed decreases below this limit.
