The COMAND multimedia system equipped as standard with integrated radio, COMAND Controller, telephone keypad, 8-inch colour display (16 : 9), DVD player (MP3-capable), and SD card slot.

The COMAND Controller and the COMAND function buttons are ergonomically arranged on the centre console, constituting the command unit of the system. All relevant information is shown in the COMAND display, a high-definition 8-inch TFT colour screen in the central field of vision of the driver. This way you always have your central settings before your eyes.

The COMAND APS multimedia system is optionally available (optional component of navigation package) and offers a host of additional navigation and entertainment functions. Of particular interest to the driver: the improved map display and the alternative route calculation. Another component of the navigation package is the LINGUATRONIC voice-operated control system.

With the optional front entertainment package (standard equipment for V12 engine vehicles), COMAND APS features innovative SPLITVIEW monitor technology. This makes it possible to show different content for driver and front passenger on the large COMAND display. While the driver uses the navigation mode, for example, the front passenger can watch a film. Wireless headphones can be used for audio output.

Many key S-Class functions can be activated without taking your hands off the steering wheel. They are displayed in the instrument cluster central display and are easy to control using the buttons of the multifunction steering wheel. Information from the new driving assistance and safety systems are shown as clear messages in the display: the Speed Limit Assist function can, for example, alert the driver to current speed limits, and the ATTENTION ASSIST function (not available for S 400 HYBRID) can recommend that the driver take a break by means of a flashing symbol.

The optional rear seat entertainment package with Harman Kardon® Logic7® surround-sound system is available to make the journey more entertaining for passengers in the rear. On each of the front seat head restraints newly-designed 8-inch TFT colour displays are installed. Rear-compartment passengers can choose their TV station using remote control. Sound output is via wireless headphones. The package includes two AUX-in connections. This makes it possible, for instance, to connect a games console during the journey. And access to diverse drives and interfaces in the vehicle is possible from the rear.

The optional Harman/Kardon® LOGIC 7® surround sound system (included in the front entertainment package and in the rear seat entertainment package) for the S-Class offers a new dimension in listening pleasure. It allows you to recreate a concert-hall experience at the press of a button.

The basis for the system’s outstanding sound quality is the 13-channel DSP amplifier, via which the music is distributed at 600 watts to 14 high-performance loudspeakers, positioned to ensure a surround sound experience for every seat – also due to the Dolby Digital 5.1 system.

An additional novelty: the surround sound system can enable media and music formats such as DVD-audio /-video to sound in full digital quality. The processor controls the optimum reproduction of soundtracks and effects. For this, the system covers the entire band width, reproducing even the finest nuances. Logic 7® can transform conventional stereo recordings in surround-sound quality and produces a 360º sound quality, independently of loudspeaker position.
