The vehicle interior can be fragranced to preference with the AIR BALANCE package. There is a choice of four high-quality interior fragrances according to personal preference and mood. In addition, the air quality can be improved by oxygen ionisation and filtering of the incoming air.

The vehicle occupants can switch the fragrance on and off, as well as adjust its intensity. Use of this feature does not change the smell of the interior permanently, not do the fragrance molecules settle on the textile surfaces in the car or the occupants' clothing. The fragrance is subtle, is dispersed gently and subsides again quickly.

There is a container in the glove compartment for the glass flagon with the different fragrances (NIGHTLIFE MOOD, DOWNTOWN MOOD, SPORTS MOOD, FREESIDE MOOD), which are intended to remind one of a perfume. The air in the interior is cleaned through ionising with oxygen and can thus contribute in large part to the feeling of well-being. The package includes air filters that clean the air in the vehicle interior constantly.

Illuminated seat belt buckle extenders make seat belt fastening easier for rear passengers, and can tension the seat belts in critical situations to increase occupant protection. The beltbag, a type of inflatable belt strap, reduces the loads on the chest during a crash.

In a dangerous situation the PRE-SAFE® system causes the seat belt buckle extender to move down from its neutral position. The tension created in the seat belts holds the passengers in place in a critical driving situation and readies them for possible impact. If a crash does occur, the seat belt buckle extender returns to its higher position to aid rescue of the occupants and the tension in the seat belts is relaxed.

The outer-rear seats are also fitted with a beltbag. This specially-designed belt is woven from a single piece of material and fitted with a tear seam. It is arranged in such a way that the bag area unfurls itself when triggered and can be filled. The beltbag can reduced the pressure on the thorax.

The seats have separately controlled air chambers, which adjust to your individual physiognomic requirements, for example, with lumbar support that can be adjusted in several places and through an additional warming function in the area of the spine.

Improved lateral support for the driver and front passenger when cornering is achieved with the active driving dynamics function, which inflates the seat side bolsters away from the bend in the event of lateral acceleration, thereby stabilising the body safely.

The massage function in the backrest, which has 6 ENERGIZING massage functions, helps to tone up or relax the muscles. It prevents the back muscles from tiring, particularly on long journeys. The occupants can choose between "low" and "high" intensity settings. A massage pad is integrated into the seat backrest.

This anticipatory suspension system provides unrivalled comfort, as it already adapts to undulations or potholes before the car reaches them. A stereo camera is used to scan the road ahead so that the damping at each wheel can be optimally adapted for upcoming uneven stretches.

From the images and data gleaned about the condition of the road surface, the system calculates the correct strategy for adjusting in advance the damping of each wheel so as to deal in the best possible way with the unevenness ahead.

This strategy is then put into practice by the proven ABC (Active Body Control) suspension system with integrated Continous Damping Control so effectively that vibrations are almost imperceptible in the interior. In addition, the hydraulic all-round self-levelling system keeps the vehicle body level constant, independently of the load it is carrying.

This system makes parking and manoeuvring with a realistic all-round view possible with the help of four networked cameras. The vehicle and its surroundings can be shown in a bird's-eye view on the COMAND Online display, and obstacles below the window line are also visible to the driver.

The system detects child seats with a transponder from the Mercedes-Benz accessories range and automatically deactivates the front passenger airbag.In this way small children are protected from injuries caused by the inflating front passenger airbag. This eliminates the need for permanent deactivation at the workshop and is therefore not necessary.

The fire extinguisher is mounted easily accessible at the front of the driver's seat.

For the best possible visibility on country roads and motorways, on bends and in foggy conditions, the LED Intelligent Light System automatically adapts to the lighting and driving conditions. Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus allows continuous long-range illumination of the road ahead without dazzle.

One highlight is the Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus. The system provides automatic highbeam control with gentle transitions and adaptive headlamp range adjustment for dipped-beam light. And the really ingenious feature: part of the main beam cones are blanked out for oncoming traffic or vehicles ahead. But the side of the road remains illuminated by the main beam, without any road users being dazzled. Maximum vision also ensures maximum safety.

Other lighting modes providing a very high degree of safety in conditions of poor visibility are the country mode, motorway mode, enhanced fog light function as well as the cornering light function and the active light function.

While the night time accounts for only 20 per cent of all traffic volume, 40 per cent of all fatal accidents happen during that time. This system puts the driver in a position to see people or animals at an earlier stage. They are clearly shown on the multifunction display of the instrument cluster.

A camera working together with two LED infrared headlamps projects objects that might otherwise go unseen onto the display in the instrument cluster. This shows a greyscale picture of the scene ahead of the vehicle, which has sharp resolution and is pleasant on the eyes, in which people and animals that have been registered are highlighted. Additionally, if the spotlight function is switched on, the front headlamp will flash at any person spotted on the passenger's side of the road.

Permanent monitoring of the tyre pressure increases driving safety and the service life of the tyres. The tyre pressure on all four wheels is monitored by sensors and shown on the multifunction display.

Run-flat tyres do not to need to be changed immediately in the event of a puncture. Continuing on is possible without a major loss in comfort – depending on the load for up to 80 kilometres at a top speed of 80 km/h.

24 specially designed speakers, 24 amplifier channels with a total system output of 1540 watts, as well as technologies developed specifically for the vehicle, ensure an extraordinarily expressive and intriguing 3D sound – the Burmester "feel-good sound".

With this 3D surround sound, passengers are able to experience and enjoy mono, stereo and 5.1 music signals three-dimensionally. This is done with the help of special Burmester algorithms and three speakers integrated into the roof liner. The handset with touchscreen serves both as a telephone and as a remote control for the seat functions of the optional Rear-Seat Comfort package. Depending on specifications the receiver is located in a cradle in the rear armrest or the centre console, which automatically charges it.

Operation is intuitive using four keys and a touchscreen. Text, numbers and symbols can be rapidly and easily entered using the on-screen keyboard. The system has its own hands-free zone in the rear, and allows call transfer from the rear to the front and vice versa.

The telephony function requires that a mobile phone is connected to COMAND Online or the Individual Entertainment system in the rear via Bluetooth®. Depending on the Bluetooth® profiles of the mobile phone, contacts, text messages and emails, as well as other functionalities, can be displayed on the handset.

The functions of the COMAND Online control and display can also be conveniently operated from the rear with the remote control. This relieves strain on the driver, who is able to concentrate fully on the traffic.

An auxiliary aerial and a digital receiver allow listening to terrestrial broadcasts of digital radio programmes. DAB digital radio offers excellent reception quality and valuable additional information about e.g. traffic or the radio programme.

Switching between analogue and digital reception is automatic according to network coverage and signal strength. The radio menu in the COMAND system gives the option of manually switching from digital to analogue mode. The DAB tuner supports both DAB signals and also the DAB+ and DMB standards. The signals are received through an additional roof aerial.

The displays in the backs of the driver's and front passenger's seats can be operated individually without the need for the front occupants to be involved. It is possible to access every media source (radio, TV, media, internet, navigation, entertainment, DVD drive, devices connected via USB) from any seat in the vehicle.

It is also possible to use other, external audio and video resources (for example, MP3 players, USB sticks, Apple devices such as iPod®, iPad® and also games consoles) via the two USB slots and analogue AUX-in jacks in the rear seat armrest.

A universal interface in the armrest lets you connect mobile phones conveniently to the vehicle's speaker phone. To do so, just insert the mobile phone into the a phone cradle (accessory) matching the device.

A universal interface in the centre console lets you easily connect portable media players such as iPod® or iPhone®. The audio and video contents are thus conveniently controlled and reproduced first-class via the infotainment systems of the vehicle.

The audio content of these devices can then be reproduced through the vehicle's audio system. Operation, through the controller or steering wheel buttons, is simple and safe. Additional information such as the track title, album, performer etc. (where available) can be shown on the vehicle's displays and video content shown on the COMAND Online screen.

The ViaMichelin travel and restaurant guide provides extensive information about restaurants, hotels, tourist attractions and routes 36 European countries. By inserting an SD memory card the data can be accessed via COMAND Online and used for navigation.

The large COMAND Online display enables the front passenger to enjoy films in brilliant picture quality while the driver e.g. keeps an eye on the navigation instructions. This is made possible by SPLITVIEW, which is able to show different content simultaneously on the same display depending on the viewing angle.

A high-quality radio headset treats the front passenger to first-class sound without disturbing the driver. The front passenger has convenient access to the entertainment source of his or her choice by remote control – movies on DVD, radio, internet or television in conjunction with a TV receiver. Content from MP3 players, game consoles or an iPod® is also available via the AUX-in jack.

This feature allows the connection of a mobile phone using the Bluetooth® SAP (SIM Access Profile) protocol or direct operation by inserting a SIM card into the integral SIM card reader. Use of the vehicle's external aerial ensures better reception.

The touchscreen telephone handset in the rear seat armrest acts as a telephone and control unit for the luxury seat functions in the rear. The handset can be used for private conversations as well as for hands-free telephony in the rear.

Watching TV in excellent picture quality and with a large programme selection – the TV receiver makes this also possible in the vehicle. It receives digital stations broadcasting in DVB-T standard and allows access to additional information, such as e.g. electronic TV magazines or video text.

The high-quality carbon fibre AMG engine compartment cover highlights the sporty character of the vehicle and frames the structured layout of the engine components in striking manner.

The trailer coupling can be folded behind the rear bumper to save space when not in use. The coupling is simply folded out to attach a car trailer or mount a bicycle carrier. There is a release switch in the boot.

When driving with a car/trailer combination, Trailer Stability Assist provides the driver with additional assistance over and above the standard-fit ESP® Electronic Stability Program. If the trailer starts to swing from side to side more than once while driving, the system recognises the problematic driving situation and ensures the swinging stops quickly through repeated, short brake actuations.

To signal the power of the brake system even more clearly visually as well, the brake callipers are also available painted red.

In addition to the standard central locking system the boot lid can be reinforced further by two massive locking devices to transport valuable items particularly secure. They are operated automatically by locking or unlocking the vehicle.

The intelligent windscreen wiper system provides the driver with an optimal view even while wiping. The washer fluid is sprayed directly ahead of the wiper blades and wiped away immediately. The heating system effectively reduces the risk of icing.

Little nozzles in a distributor rail on the wiper arm direct the washer fluid just ahead of the blade.The fluid is wiped away without any delay and the driver's line of vision is restored much more quickly.

The cleaning fluid container, adaptive windscreen wiper system and the washer fluid pipes can all be heated and are therefore afforded much better protection against icing up. In this way they make it possible to clean the front and rear windscreens more effectively even at low temperatures.

With its large glazed areas, this roof system ensures a particularly bright and welcoming ambience in the interior. It consists of a fixed panoramic glass rear section and an electrically operated sliding glass front section for ventilation of the interior as required.

When the roof is open, the interior can be naturally ventilated to suit individual requirements using different opening positions. A net-like wind deflector keeps disturbing turbulence out and keeps the noise level pleasantly low. Two-part roller sun blinds in the appointments colour can be closed using one-touch control if the sun is shining in too brightly.

The panoramic sliding sunroof can be operated via the multifunction switch in the roof unit, and it can also be opened (summer opening) or closed (convenience closing) from out side the vehicle using the electronic ignition key.

The dark-tinted heat-insulating glass used for the rear side windows and the rear windscreen protects the rear-seat passengers against prying eyes and direct sunlight. At the same time the dark tint underscores the sporty character of the vehicle.

Electrical devices such as a laptop or tablet computer can be connected to the vehicle's power supply with the 230V socket in the rear compartment. It is positioned in the rear section of the centre console or in conjunction with the First-Class Rear appointments in the stowage compartment of the Business console.

The stainless-steel AMG door sill panels with "AMG" lettering, backlit in white, are a sporty detail and enhance the value appeal of the interior. At the same time, they protect the door area against scratches.

The AMG Performance steering wheel with ALCANTARA in the grip area provides even better grip during sporty driving manoeuvres.

Removable inserts transform the two stowage compartment in the front and rear of the centre console into practical lidded ashtrays. This feature is rounded out with two cigarette lighters.

The EASY ADJUST luxury head restraints offer driver and front passenger considerably more comfort and safety. The distance between head and restraint as well as the height are electrically adjustable. In addition, the side bolsters provide comfortable lateral support as desired.

In conjunction with the Chauffeur package for the rear, the head restraint for the front passenger seat can be folded away if it is not occupied. The head restraint for the front passenger seat (chauffeur seat) can be removed so as to use the extended berth position.

With the Executive seat the rear-seat passenger behind the front-passenger seat can enjoy even long journeys in absolute relaxation. The seat can recline into a comfortable lying positing at the push of a button. The combination of legrest and footrest creates a comfortable bed.

In conjunction with the Chauffeur package the reclined position of the outer rear seat behind the front passenger can be further extended if there are breaks in the journey. The head restraint for the front passenger seat can be removed and the seat back folded completely down, in this way extending the reclining seat to the front.

A cushionbag improves occupant protection when the backrest is reclined far. In the event of a frontal collision it deploys under the seat cushion and thus counteracts submarining under the seat belt.

The auxiliary heating for the interior of the vehicle can be activated conveniently with the radio remote from a distance of up to 300 metres. It signals the successful establishment of a radio connection and shows the remaining heating or ventilation time.

The continuous Business console transforms the rear into a mobile office with two individual seats. Two USB ports, two 12-volt sockets and the temperature-controlled cup holder as well as optional features such as folding tables, make for a comfortable travelling and working environment.

Cooled food and drinks always at hand – the refrigerated compartment provides this treat to passengers in the rear. It is elegantly integrated into the rear armrest and has a capacity of approx. 8.5 litres.

The compact refrigeration system works on the thermoelectric principle and is powered by the vehicle's on-board electricity supply. By using the very latest in electronics, on the one hand optimal refrigeration is achieved, and on the other, the current is absorbed in such a way as to go easy on the battery. The refrigeration temperature – roughly between 4 and 15 degrees Celsius – can be set via two buttons, one for high and one for low refrigeration.
