When designing this engine we attached particular importance to making it compact and lightweight. Coupled with measures intended to reduce friction, this leads to low fuel consumption and low emissions. However, these measures do not mean that you have to make do with lower output or torque.

This engine gives you excellent responsiveness and develops optimum torque at surprisingly low engine speeds. Enhanced consumption, low emissions and good cold-running characteristics also contribute to the engine's excellent efficiency.

The combination of biturbo charging and direct injection burns the fuel particularly effectively in this agile and torquey engine. The result: moderate fuel consumption but the usual high AMG engine power.

In the new GLE's petrol engines, extremely rapid-action, precise piezo injectors are at work spraying the fuel into the combustion chambers, ensuring a homogeneous air-fuel mixture cloud. The oil pump with requirement-oriented control cools and lubricates the assembly in line with engine load and speed.

The large volume of the catalytic converters and their close proximity to the engine make them very responsive; and as a consequence, the new GLE's petrol engines have low emissions. The standard  ECO start/stop function  switches off the engine temporarily when the vehicle is stationary.
