They are the result of constructive development power: All engines of the new GLE Coupé exude a powerful aura. You will quickly feel the sportiness and soon notice the precise performance. You can never have too much of a good thing But you are always clearly superior. There is no room for false modesty.

The highlights

When designing this engine we attached particular importance to making it compact and lightweight. Coupled with measures intended to optimise friction characteristics, this leads to low fuel consumption and moderate emissions. However, these measures do not mean that you have to make do with lower output or torque. 

 

AMG 5.5 litre V8 twin turbo engine

The highlights

The combination of biturbo charging and direct injection burns the fuel particularly effectively in this agile, torquey V-engine with offset crankshaft. The result: lower fuel consumption but the usual high AMG engine power.

 

Details about the engine technology

Extremely rapid-action, precise piezo injectors spray the fuel into the combustion chambers, ensuring a homogeneous air-fuel mixture cloud. The oil pump with requirement-oriented control cools and lubricates the assembly in line with engine load and speed.

Details on the efficiency

The large volume of the catalytic converters and their close proximity to the engine contribute towards a swift responsiveness of the converters; this in turn leads to lower emission levels. The standard ECO start/stop function switches the engine off temporarily when the vehicle is stationary.
