BlueEFFICIENCY from Mercedes-Benz stands for pioneering efficiency technology as well as innovative packages of measures based on optimising fuel consumption and emission levels.
BlueEFFICIENCY measures are comprehensive vehicle optimisations that help save fuel and ease the burden on the environment. In the new GLC, too, the most efficient engines are combined with the best features available, to keep fuel consumption to a minimum.
These include:
With an excellent Cd value of 0.31, the new GLC is one of the most aerodynamically efficient SUVs around. Its aerodynamically optimised body shape reduces fuel consumption and additionally lowers sound levels in the vehicle interior, particularly at high speeds.
The excellent Cd value has been achieved in part thanks to the aerodynamically efficient design of the A-pillar and the equally aerodynamically efficient design of the front and rear bumpers. An optimised underbody panelling design with large-scale cladding of the engine compartment and main floor also contribute to the low Cd value.
The ECO display in the instrument cluster analyses the driver's individual driving style and gives concrete tips on how to reduce fuel consumption. Three bar diagrams show how efficiently the vehicle is being driven and indicate where fuel might be saved.
What's the easiest way to save fuel and reduce emission levels? By having the engine automatically switched off whenever it's not needed. Engine off when the vehicle is stationary, the engine switches on again when the brake is released or the accelerator pedal is depressed.
Automatically switching off the engine when stationary, for example in tailbacks or at traffic lights, lowers fuel consumption and emissions and saves fuel costs. The ECO start/stop function operates particularly effectively, quickly and quietly.

Mercedes-Benz has systematically opted for lightweight construction in the new GLC. By using aluminium and high-strength and ultra-high-strength materials, and by saving on weight - for example, in the seating - these enhancements are also good for the environment.
Right from the early development stages, great importance was attached to using materials in the new GLC that are low on emissions and recyclable. The new GLC achieves a materials recycling level of 85 percent and recoverability of 95 percent according to the ISO 22628 calculation model.
Examples of environmentally materials and processes include:
Economical. Responsible. Sustainable. As the inventor of the car, maintaining our commitment to the environment and society as a whole is a key corporate philosophy. See the online Daimler Sustainability Report for more details.
