Intelligent and quick to react: the system always reacts when necessary to ensure you'll be as safe as you'll be comfortable in traffic. It is capable of adapting optimally to any situation.

This suspension featuring a selective, passive damping system delivers well-balanced driving comfort by optimising roll characteristics, damping and stabilisation in line with road conditions.

In combination with continuously variable damper control, the air suspension system ensures ride comfort and dynamic handling on a very high level. The damping at each wheel is adapted to the current driving situation, and can be set for more comfortable or sporty characteristics as required.

The pneumatic all-round self-levelling system keeps the vehicle body level constant, independently of the load it is carrying. It can be raised by up to 50 millimetres to increase ground clearance (only in conjunction with the Off-Road Engineering package). At high speeds, the vehicle is lowered, to reduce wind resistance and further increase stability.

The Direct-Steer system adds to the comfort of speed-sensitive power steering with a variable steering ratio dependent on the steering wheel angle. On winding roads this leads e.g. to more agile vehicle response and increases straight-line stability.

The DYNAMIC SELECT switch lets you select particularly comfortable, sporty, efficient – or fully customised – handling characteristics with a simple finger tap. Parameters such as the characteristics of the engine, transmission, suspension and steering system are adapted in line with the selected driving programme.

The standard setting is the balanced and consumption-optimised "Comfort" mode.

The driving programme "Sport" with more progressive steering response delivers greater agility and dynamic performance thanks to "sporty firm" suspension set-up (with AIR BODY CONTROL), spontaneous throttle response and modified shift points. Sporty performance can be further enhanced in "Sport+" mode. Consequently, the suspension (in conjunction with AIR BODY CONTROL) and the powertrain have an even more dynamic set-up.

The "Eco" driving programme is designed to keep fuel consumption to a minimum. This includes modifying accelerator response and shift points (with 9G-TRONIC PLUS). The output of equipment such as seat heating, rear window heating or air conditioner are also adapted.

The "Individual" mode allows the driver to vary individual parameters at will – from the steering and the powertrain to the suspension.
