The aim in developing this generation of 4-cylinder petrol engines was to significantly reduce consumption and emissions, without impacting on output and ride comfort in any way. The result: cutting-edge, pioneering engine technology in two power bands.

Direct injection with a fuel injection pressure of up to 200 bar ensures a high degree of efficiency. The fuel is fed along a high-pressure rail to the injectors, which are positioned centrally and lead to the combustion chamber. Multi-hole piezo injectors are deployed.

A lower engine weight compared with the preceding engine as well as to other 4-cylinder petrol engines in this segment, low friction losses and on-demand ancillaries all contribute to energy efficiency. The standard-specification ECO start/stop function as well as the ECO display also help to achieve a good energy footprint.
